2010

The date: 9-10 February.

The place: Lyon, France.

The occasion: Sony Leadership Development meets African challenges!

Sony executives from all over Europe came together for the launch of their final leadership challenge. Three African projects were also represented and were to be the beneficiaries and 'case studies' that provides context for the Sony staff to show their leadership capabilities. The event was facilitated by Impact International in collaboration with Streetfootballworld and Sony.

During this launch participants got a chance to get to know one another, learn about the various projects and also reflect on leadership. Highlights include the focus on leadership as relationships, the importance of passion and the opportunity to leave a legacy. Impact diligently assisted all the participants the reflect thoughtfully and to be aware of the process and not only the immediate task at hand. As a practical example of a streetfootballworld program, we visited Sport dans la Ville in Lyon and seeing their success was very inspirational.

From a GDM point of view the event was exciting and a success. We got to know two wonderful other projects in the 'Kids League Uganda' (Ann) and Whizzkids from Durban (Marcus). Moreso, we established a working group with Patrick, Neil, Richard, Roy and a few others to follow and this 'dream team' has been tasked to produce tangible plans in order to make the dream of FUTECO PARK a reality. For the next six months, we will be colaborating, building friendships, learning from one another and hopefully jointly come up with everything needed to realise FUTECO PARK.

So, after an event like this we want to thank Panos and Julia from streetfootballworld; Al, Andy, Duncan from Impact; Sarah, Mandy, Tom from Sony and all the other participants who made this a warm and productive event.

We are so excited how the local (village of Manica) can connect on a global (Sony, Impact, sfw) level - and most importantly how we can all learn from each other and grow as professionals and persons.
