At GDM we always explain that one of our three core values is a relational approach. Now, to state that something is a value, or at leased a desired value, presupposes that the opposite or lack of that value is also a possibility. In the case of development work, the inverted value is one of treating people like projects. And this is where the rhetoric and emotions of all those involved in Manica enter the battle field. Our relational approach, means we view and treat each other like family- those living in Manica and those living elsewhere. If someone treats Manica or its people like a project or a thing, then the individuals can easily feel used or prostitutised (new word).

To be excited about success and feel good events is obviously easy and we live for those moments. But, like any family there are difficult times and we have to go through them as family members and friends. June to August 2011 will be difficult times for GDM, but in these difficult times we also build stronger relationships, we grow, we learn and we become closer. The traditional motto of GDM is: Um por Todos- Todos por um, and it is in the tough times that we need to show that.

"Tenha calma e saiba que juntos estamos mesmo no sol e na chuva vamos lutar ate encontrarmos uma sobra ou casa que nao pinga"

So this piece of 'news' we are sharing is not about any of our good results, successful workshops or events, it is not about how someone's life has changed, it is simply news that says, things are difficult. And we will hopefully get through. Some people don't like negative news, since it makes us uncomfortable, but GDM is about real life, and that includes bad news!
